You may have noticed the links list below getting a little large. I'll be going through it later on to find links that are no longer any good or no longer have themartial arts ezines link added to their site and deleting them.

If the Martial Arts Ezine comes out twice in one month instead of once your ad will remain in the second monthly issue of the martial arts newsletter. Each martial arts ezine goes out a second time using keywords for Hawaii. Thus making it easier for Hawaii residents (my home town being Honolulu) to find this martial arts ezine and make local Hawaii advertising even more efficient. Others searching for your advertising and martial arts will also find both martial arts ezines. Most of my ezines are ranked high in the search engines thanks to your links and promotion of the martial arts. You can end up with up to four martial arts ezine ads for the price of one ad. At the minimum you will end up with two martial arts ezine ads for the price of one ad.

You may send your check via the internet, snail mail, or fax here or get more details on advertising in the Martial Arts Ezine and Elsewhere including some free advertising here

You may want to consider printing hard copies out of the Martial Arts Ezine and giving them to potential martial arts students or customers which contain ads or martial art articles that you have submitted. If you do this, be sure to include a phone number or address people can find your business or school. Remember, at least half of your martial art students, customers, and potential martial arts students and customers have internet access.

Place the web site address on business cards and flyers of web sites in which you have written martial arts articles. Being published by a world wide martial arts electronic magazine will give you even more credibility.

Sensei J. Richard Kirkham

How do we keep this Martial Arts Ezine going and expand it even further?

With your help. If you would forward this

to your martial art friends, I'm sure they would appreciate it. Be sure to enclose a note to them so they know I am not spamming them.

The idea of reading articles, and getting opinions from martial artists all over the world is still amazing.

Understanding and Applying the Art: Martial-Arts-Theory by Michael Johnson

:Introduction:
Now before we begin, Lets start with the complete idea of what a complete Martial-Artist is, or what the proper way of the Martial-Arts-Warrior should be.  The proper path of the Martial-Artist is a well conditioned, liberated explorer, Who is open to learn all forms of Martial-Arts-Combat, And to apply the Martial-Arts knowledge he has learned, To his own "Individual body-type, and to be open to learn as the combat is undergoing, With no emotional intrusions in his way that may hurt his performance, like  fear, e Ego, or rigid-thinking, Which means he should not think how he should strike, or when he should strike, but he should be flexible, in letting his opponent determine how he should strike, by how he attacks, with nothing in his way, no l Limitations to allow him not to perform at his peak-proficiency.

Now there are three faculties that must be developed properly before a Martial-artist can perform at a high level.

1. The first Faculty is Body. A Martial-Artist should be well conditioned in order to participate in Martial-Arts-Correctly.  If a Martial-Artist is tired in combat, his performance will be effected. Good nutrition is also important, to the body's development.

2. The second Faculty is Mind, A Martial-Artist must think properly in order to execute, And Evolve his art properly, If you are too Rigid in your idea of combat, Others can Adapt to your Pre-Arranged Style, You become Predictable in your movement, your Art becomes Rigid, Static, and Traditional, Which allows other to see and Adapt to it, Which could effect the outcome of the combat.

3. The Third Faculty is Spirit, A Martial-Artist must be able to Concentrate, And Focus, He must have a Psyche-Link to his opponent, And one way to achieve this is through "Meditation. Which opens and Evolves the Spiritual Faculty of the Individual. ---------------------------------------------------------------      This Section is devoted to how to develop properly,
1. Body
2. Mind
3. Spirit

Now lets first start withh faculty of the Body, Because you have to be well conditioned and coordinated to perform learned techniques properly, Exercising is important to developing the Body, and Developing Discipline, Flexibility, Balance, Quickness, and Coordination. There are some Exercises that are good in developing Balance, Stamina, And coordination, and Quickness, and Power, and Flexibility.

1. Jumping-Rope: Helps develops balance and Stamina, Builds the Cardiovascular-System.
2. Katas: Pre-Arranged-Techniques) Helps develop stamina and coordination in learned techniques.
3. Stretching: Looses Leg-Muscles, Lie the hamstrings-Muscles, and develops, Flexibility that the Martial-Artist needs for, Kicking, and proper Balance and Strength in the Legs.
4. Isometrics: Which is pushing against an-unmovable object, Develops Quickness as well.
5. Sit-ups: Develops, Strong Stomach Muscles called the Abdomens, Which is necessary to protect Vital-Stomach-Organs. also don't do sit-ups with your hands around the back of your head, But lifting your head to see your legs, With your legs kept straight.
6. Push-Ups: Develop strong arms.
7. Jogging: Develops Stamina.
8. Walking: Is very good for the fitness of the whole body. 9. Leg-Lifts: Is good for leg and Stomach Muscles.
10. Shadow-Boxing: Is good for Coordination, being creative in preparing for possible combat, develops stamina as well.
11. Weight-Training: Which develops strength, But consult on an expert, It could interfere with your Flexibility, If done improperly, Dont use to build big-muscles, But Strength in the Limbs.
12. Sparring: Is necessary to practice timing in hitting.

Now when starting Exercising start out small or you might get muscles strains, That might lead you to postpone Training, And you may have to start all over again. Wasting what you did previously. --------------------------------------------------------------   Choosing Your Art:

I Recommend you get in Condition first before you choose what Art is for you, Because Martial-Arts-Instructors-Drill-Exercises in a Group Format, Which doesn't allow each Individual to get in shape at there own pace. So each Individual must take it upon themselves, To be in shape before they start, So they wont be to tired to perform, The Techniques properly there Instructor gives to them.  Now the Question is what Martial-Arts-Style do I Recommend to start out with First?  Now let me start out by saying I'm not putting down any other system, This is just my Opinion, Of what style I feel is an effective Martial-Arts-System, to start out with. But the first style I would recommend to first start out with is Brazilian, Jiu-Jitsu.  Now Grappling and Submission Holds, and Ground-Fighting is an effective Self-Defense System. most Styles ignore these Techniques, And are totally unprepared for Ground-Fighting, for example refer to the Ultimate-Fighting-Championships, And you see how the Grapplers, Especially the Gracie Dominated the other Martial-Arts-Stylist.

Now I'm not saying that all you need to study is Brazilian, jiu-jitsu, a martial-Artist still needs to know how to punch and kick, not just Ground-Fighting. If for example, You would be on the street and you had to fight multiple-attackers and your attackers had sticks, and knives, and you did not know how to kick or punch very good you probably would be defeated because you cannot grapple, or Ground-Fight with Multiple Attackers, Because when you have one on the Ground, The other could kick or stab or hit you while you are fighting on the ground with a single attacker, So in that situation you would need to know how to fight standing up, and disarming any possible weapons your attackers could have and to punch and kick standing up, keeping your eyes on the other attacker as you are striking the other.  That's why I said earlier you have to be a complete fighter, To deal effectively with different situations you may have to confront.

I also recommend secondly a style that concentrates mostly on kicks and punches, like a good kick-boxing school. Now when you combine Jiu-Jitsu with kick-boxing, you have a good start, because you know how to ground-fight, kick and punch.

Thirdly a good system to learn to make you even more effective is a system called Dim-Mak.  It deals with internal fighting concepts, That is based on acupuncture points and various energy channels called meridians, to deliver a touch that could heal or cause death to the person who was Touched at the certain Meridian point over-time.
The End.
Stay-Tuned for next Issue.
