The 10 Minute Martial Arts Workout

The 10 minute martial arts workout was developed by me because, like many parents, I cannot always find time for a full martial arts workout. The 10 minute martial arts workout and more martial arts drills can be found in my printable ebook of martial arts drills Bringing The Martial Artist Out from Within

Equipment needed for the 10 minute martial arts workout

  1. two to five pound hand weights

  2. two pound ankle weights

  3. A small amount of kicking and punching room

Procedure for The 10 Minute Martial Arts Workout

Warning: The use of ankle weights and hand weights for punching and kicking may cause joint injuries even after long term usage. I personally stopped using ankle weights to kick with due to a continuous weak knee. I do not believe the injury was caused by the use of ankle weights, but the extra weight seems to put too much stress on the injured knee. On the other side of the coin I have noticed vast improvements in my punching and kicking power. Only do this martial arts exercise or any other martial arts exercise with your martial arts instructor's permission, parents' permission and or at your own risk.

  1. Warm up for the 10 minutes martial arts drill. You may use the warm up in my Knife Use and Defense Video if you like.

  2. If you are not accustom to the use of weights start with the two pound hand weights and no ankle weights

  3. Begin at a medium speed shadow fighting with all your weapons hands, feet, knees, elbows, head, etc.. You are defending your self against multiple attackers.

  4. If you are accustom to the extra weight you may build yourself to full speed and up to five LB weights, but you must remember to keep your joints slightly bent at the end of your punches and kicks whether you are using any weight at all or no weights.

  5. You may set your time or number of repetitions. I use one minute or 40 reps.

  6. After your first set of shadow fighting with all your weapons, whether with weights or not, you will now begin removing weapons and blocking tools in order to force yourself to think of other combinations. We all develop favorite martial arts techniques and become dependent on these martial arts techniques. One of the best ways to develop new blocking and striking combinations is to remove the ability to use your favorite blocking and striking combinations.

  7. You may now do your martial arts combinations with only your lower weapons kicking and knees. You cannot even block with your arms you must evade by slipping ducking and side stepping. See my section on evasive drills in Bringing The Martial Artist Out from Within

  8. Follow steps one through six using only upper body weapons, head, hands, elbows. You may also block now with the weapon limbs you have available to you.

  9. Follow steps one through six using your right arm weapons and left leg weapons

  10. Follow steps one through six using your left arm weapons and right leg weapons

  11. Follow steps one through six using your right arm weapons and right leg weapons

  12. Follow steps one through six using your left right arm weapons and left leg weapons

  13. Follow steps one through six using your right arm weapons. You may be thinking there is little you can do with one limb as a weapon. If you are thinking that you'd better keep practicing.

  14. Follow steps one through six using your left arm weapons. You may be thinking there is little you can do with one limb as a weapon. If you are thinking that you'd better keep practicing.

  15. Follow steps one through six using your right leg weapons. You may be thinking there is little you can do with one limb as a weapon. If you are thinking that you'd better keep practicing.

  16. Follow steps one through six using your left leg weapons. You may be thinking there is little you can do with one limb as a weapon. If you are thinking that you'd better keep practicing.

  17. Repeat any technique or combinations of techniques you are not satisfied with throughout your sets.

If you get through the whole thing using five pound weights and two and one half pound ankle weights you're in great shape keep up the good work. If you feel safe to do so and accept responsibility for your own actions you can increase your resistance by increasing your weight slowly to five pounds in each hand and two and one half pounds on each leg.

It takes me ten to fifteen minutes using five pound weights to become fatigued enough to want to stop (never quit). I then do a couple more sets at least and look at the clock to see how long it took me. Always cool down after a workout by moving a little slower using the same activity and less resistance. This is also a good time to stretch to improve your flexibility.

Whether with weights or not, The 10 Minute Martial Arts Workout gives you enough flexibility in your workout to cover any situation or techniques for which you are training. Use your creativity and imagination. Study your printable ebook Bringing The Martial Artist Out from Within constantly for new ideas

People with products to sell please see the classified and space ad section of the Hawaii martial arts e-zine.

You may have noticed the links list below getting a little large. I'll be going through it later on to find links that are no longer any good or no longer have themartial arts ezines link added to their site and deleting them.

We are now accepting ads of any type. We hope this will help non-martial artists to understand the martial arts better.

 Cost of ads per month:

Classifieds $5.00 per month .

Banner or business card size as $10.00 per month

If the Martial Arts Ezine comes out twice in one month instead of once your ad will remain in the second monthly issue of the martial arts newsletter. Each martial arts ezine goes out a second time using keywords for Hawaii. Thus making it easier for Hawaii residents (my home town being Honolulu) to find this martial arts ezine and make local Hawaii advertising even more efficient. Others searching for your advertising and martial arts will also find both martial arts ezines. This also goes onto my classifieds page which is listed at major pages throughout this web site. Most of my ezines are ranked high in the search engines thanks to your links and promotion of the martial arts. You can end up with up to four martial arts ezine ads for the price of one ad. At the minimum you will end up with two martial arts ezine ads for the price of one ad.

For more information on advertising and special offers click here

You may want to consider printing hard copies out of the Martial Arts Ezine and giving them to potential martial arts students or customers which contain ads or martial art articles that you have submitted. If you do this, be sure to include a phone number or address people can find your business or school. Remember, at least half of your martial art students, customers, and potential martial arts students and customers have internet access.

Place the web site address on business cards and flyers of web sites in which you have written martial arts articles. Being published by a world wide martial arts electronic magazine will give you even more credibility.

KARATE KWESTIONS

Free Stuff and the Martial Arts Ezine Gimme Gimme

Previous Responses to Karate Kwestions you may respond to

I put the word FREE in here so that those of you martial arts ezine subscribers I want to read this would read it. Let me start by saying most of you are wonderful readers and I have some great martial arts article contributors, and anyone can contribute a martial arts article article to this martial arts ezine, but recently both Master Pascal's martial arts newsletter and my martial arts newsletter have had some experiences where I feel I need to explain the real world to some of you.

Master Pascal had an unworldly reader ask him why he cannot give all of his ebooks out for free, after all they did not cost him anything to make. Well, I'll tell you, it cost Master Pascal over 20 years of blood, sweat and discipline plus an M.A. in the Art of Teaching to be the martial artist and FULL TIME writer he is today. Anyone of you who does not appreciate this and consider it to be valueless needs to raise their own family and try to feed them from your own hard work. So if you are getting Master Pascal's martial arts e-zine, please consider supporting his hard work.

For myself I will only mention one incident. Recently a new subscriber requested an article on beginning chi exercises. I took my time to email this person back, explaining I had an entire ebook on the subject and he did not even have the courtesy to email me back. If you don't want to support this martial arts ezine by getting your martial arts material through me, that's one thing, totally ignoring me is not respectful and is not the martial way. I take time to answer any emails directed to me and I expect the same courtesy. So please, let's remember our contributors, and myself have families to feed. One hand washes the other, unless the other one is always held out.

I put my 28 years experience, my background in Movement Education, Exercise Physiology and Physical Education degree AND my heart and soul into my books and videos to try to help you be the best martial artist that you can be. Why not give me a chance to help you to become an even better martial artist?

I'd like to thank all my contributors and dedicated martial arts ezine readers for their support.

Rick

Right now this is being done with form mail. If anyone can set this up as cgi with an autoreponse email I'd appreciate the help.
